I received my KiScon 2019 goodie bag today! (mailed from Vienna, good idea)

It is lovely, and I've got to admit, a part of my would have loved to attend. Not for the K/S (though I love Kirk and Spock, just not so much together ;) but for the wonderful people, the fannish discussions, the vids, the art, the dinner rounds, speaking English, having fun.

...there's a KiSmet 2020 in the planning and maybe maybe I should consider going there...

Ages ago (2997, 2009) I wrote two stand-alone stories with the premise:

"All stories start with the premise that Kirk and McCoy couldn't be saved from Rura Penthe in ST VI, the Federation President is killed and a war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire takes place. What happens to our heroes?"

Amusingly/weirldy, I posted the stories with "one of three, two of three" notices - but I absolutely cannot remember a third story, and couldn't find any notes about it either. That's what you get for being too immersed in your head space without piping it out :)

I cannot emphasize enough how much the feedback of my beta readers helped Draws. Especially shagungu single-handedly rescued the whole last third of the series with her feedback (and made me re-write most of it, the only problem being the resulting enormous length of it which lead to my writing burn-out).

Posting lj ficlets to AO3

In a mission to save my little ficlets hinding in lj comments, I transferred a lot of them to AO3 tonight (and more will be coming, namely the bridge2sickbay drabbles).

The most amusing thing was re-finding the Never ever fic challenge... where ppl wanted fic nobody should ever write. I had all forgotten about this, and there are some gems (if I may say so).

Then I was very sure there had been a tiny Pike/Kirk Draws ficlet ("the tribe shoves them to have a vacation, just the two of them") somewhere, but that's the one thing I couldn't find. OTOH I found older stories where I had been so sure that they'd be on AO3 already, and they aren't (yet). Need to catch up.

... there's hoping AO3 will last for a lot longer than all other websites and archives, or fandom will take a real hit if this ever went down.

Because I'm still obsessed with Pike. Though it's also a bit weird because Reboot!Pike is so very different to Discovery!Pike (it seems... I couldn't warm up to the series and only saw some episodes of season 2, solely because of Pike). But I like this guy too and wonder if there's a story that manages to combine these two Pikes, like, what happened to turn charming Captain Dimple into badass gravitas Pike?

A new reader found Draws and writes me wonderful feedback with every step (I hope she'll survive "Reset", the mindfuck zone). And it makes me think of all the little bits and pieces I never wrote down, the loose ends. It's NaNoWriMo, and maybe I could churn out some drabbles, hm?

But starting to writing is somewhat hard when you spend all day writing ... and after pausing since 2013. Damn, it's been long.

...maybe it's good that Bob Orci directs Reboot ST III, this way at least there is angry fandom discussion again. Which is better than deadly silence ;)

...amusingly, now reading http://trekmovie.com/2014/05/13/roberto-orci-named-director-of-star-trek-3/ and this is definitely the most excitement I get over Trek since finishing my monster story. I doubt that Orci can make a good movie, but now that I'm much less invested emotionally, it's fun to read all these heated comments :)

Post-IntoDarkness, AU regarding that Pike survives Harrison's attack, hurt&comfort-y.

REQUEST: Academy Era...

Takes place during 1st or 2nd year of the Academy.

Starfleet Medical is operating a secret division that is currently running inhumane medical experiments on some captured (live) Romulans in an effort to discover their weaknesses, etc. McCoy's surgical skills catch their attention and they try to bring him into the fold. He's not willing to slice and dice living subjects even if it's supposedly for 'the greater good'. They can't exactly let him just walk out now that he's become privy to information on such ethically dubious practices. They take him into custody (and plan to, what? kill him? do a procedure to make him forget what he's learned? idk?) and figure no one will ask too many questions about a random cadet with few familial and social ties.

They failed to take into account one little detail: Jim Kirk. Cadet Kirk might've believed that Bones would up and leave him with no goodbye, but he called the ex wife, who confirms Joanna hasn't gotten her last weekly call, and he knows there's no way Bones would willingly skip out on that. The higher ups aren't taking his inquiries seriously, but there's no way he's gonna let this go. Uhura and the Vulcan Jim's pretty sure she's banging are doubtful of his conspiracy theories at first, but eventually he's got them, along with that genius Russian kid and that guy with the awesome sword collection helping him out....
