Politics in Reboot Verse

I'm still pondering the Balance of Terror and Romulan implications in the new timeline and would love to get more pointers to ongoing discussions of the theme (Federation/galactic politics in Reboot verse) or to stories that in your opinion deal with interesting points.

Also, feel free to speculate, offer suggestions, prompt with aspects you'd like to see, offer a story premise... whatever.

I feel like I'm one step away from pushing the Pike/Kirk/McCoy universe into the realms of fiction with a major plot (a la the Tarot Suite) but so far, the nature of this plot eludes me. I keep hitting the wall right now - Kirk and McCoy are on the Enterprise, and whatever they do there, it's embedded in the Star Trek Reboot context and I don't want to leave it out.

Romulans, Klingons, the Gorn, whatever - inspire my muses. Who are the strong civilizations and why? Will Vulcan and Romulus connect (Spock Prime, he!)? And what the heck was going on in the Laurentian system?

Anything you have in mind, punch it in the comments :)

One thing I'd love to see in the rebooted Trekverse is a version of the Organians. Errand of Mercy is one of my favorite eps because of the way it humbled all that mighty Federation superiority of Kirk's and even Spock's -- and called their ethics into question. I think it's the perfect counterbalance to all the save-a-world, get a standing ovation stories that tend to be featured in films and whatnot.

I never thought much about the Organians because I like my Starfleet to work more for peace than war, so it kind of collide with my personal visions :) But I'll give them another thought. I had totally forgotten about them.
