I really love "what if" fics. Like, What if Khan had succeeded in marooning Kirk on the asteroid? What if it had been McCoy that found the boy-Spock on the Genesis planet (pon farr fic's the best!)? What if something whent wrong with the whole retransfering of Spock's katra (I mean, no one had given their katra to on off-worlder before, right?) and so they were forced to share experiences? That would make a threesome more like a really kinky twosome, actually... Another thing I like is to take really sucky episodes like 'Spock's Brain' and infuse some emotion into them.
