Oooh, very intriguing. My mind is trying to map out all the differences and similarities to "our" current system. The dom/sub thing struck me as quite a weird thing to base on an entire social system on but on second thought, it wasn't that different from what we have now, right? Except that here, almost always the man's expected to be the one in charge and it's not as overt with collars and such... definitely food for thought. :D It's so interesting, too, to see Kirk's problems with authority (rebelling and wanting to be his own master but wanting the captaincy, too) reflected in his ambivalence about dom/sub roles. He really doesn't like to be bound by rules, doesn't he. Bones' "adoption" of Sarek as a master made me chuckle. Loved the little signs and Jim's confusion. For some reason, I'm picturing ML's Sarek here because BC didn't have nearly the same aura of power. And last but not least, this line of Pike's totally turned me on: "If fucking my ass is active enough for your taste, Kirk, then it's an invitation," Pike said just as bluntly.
