We just saw...

..."Cloud Atlas" and we really liked it! It meets my love for multiple timelines; linked stories with juxtaposition of life/death, tragic/luck, sadness/happiness; chance elements; and world-building. Yum.

(I don't know the book, so I can't say anything on how it compares to that.)
