Instead of trying to rush any TNG drawings this week, I relaxed and did completely other drawings. But first of all, something to grin about:

This is the head of Shatner's Alexander in an attempt of June 2(?). Yeah, this guy. The non-resemblance is uncanny :P

I drew some things with an ink pen over a cocktail and a baked potatoe (it was warm today!). Then I looked for some green and spotted a bush. This was my first scribble:

It sucked royally. I had no idea how to draw a bush with ink. So I opened "Rendering in Pen and Ink" and copied some of the author's drawings to learn about tree and bush rendering:

Then I tried again, this time also looking at the whole picture for getting the dimensions right.

It's better, but overdone - I just could've kept the grid in front almost white, instead of trying to shade it. With my ink pen, it's hard to do finer shading, and more is less.

This style is that of old illustrations, and it reminded my of my love for the old Alice in Wonderland version and old English nursery rhyms, illustrated. I also remembered that when I wrote the Tarot Suite in autumn/winter 2002, there were parts in it where I thought "I want to see an illustration for this, just black and white"...and now there's a real chance I might be able to do it myself. This is...a miracle, in a way. I mean, I remember lately that I drew many geometric patterns all my life, usually because I was bored in school ;), but I never considered that DRAWING. Drawing was something mysterious, an art that fell from the sky onto a few blessed people.

And now I do it. Not perfect, but with every new drawing, it's like stepping forward. The first time I realized how much I practised was when my 3b pencils were suddenly only half their original length. By now, there are drawings on which I spent 8 hours in a whole three sittings. I'm rather obsessed, but it's fun to be obsessed about it and a rather healthy obsession *G* (Besides the fact that I should do more sports in my spare time, sigh.)

Anyway, learned lately that my mother was very good at pencil and ink drawing in her youth, and her aunt was even better. So it seems to run in the (female line of) family. And I'm so damn glad about it all :)

Life is great.
