The first list reminds me of Ebert's Little Movie Glossary. One of my favourites is the Hollywood Television rule.
When a TV is part of the set dressing but is not integral to the plot, the chances are good that it will be playing a Western in black and white just before or during the cavalry charge, complete with Indian war cries and bugles. Th chances of this being true approach 100% if a) the character watching TV is a cop, b) he is waking up at 3 AM following c) a drunken binge after losing his partner, his badge, his wife, or all of the above.
