THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The actors are great!

The mixture of character moments and action is great.

Lots of trek references but this movie should be fun for all new viewers too (as they went for).

I can totally live with the AU reboot and think it works fabulously.

♥ Karl Urban for his great performance. But Pine and Quinto are sooo great too. Really all the main characters fit the bill for me.

It's a BRIGHT Enterprise. I was so pissed about the later series (and let's face it, SPN and Heroes are also so dark in the sets), but this Enterprise has brilliant colors and bright uniforms and they RUN across corridors when it's urgent (not walk leisurely like in TNG).

So, there is romance and I bet some people will hate it. I always thought this pairing would work well, so, hey, it makes more room for K/Mc :P I want FANFIC! There's so much interaction in the beginning, and so much of the original series in it.

Should you go and see it? Decide for yourself. I know that a) I want to see it again b) with the original voices please (German dubbing tonight, meh, but at least I understood everything; I tend to miss things in English dialogs *blush*) When it comes out on DVD, I want a LARGER TV set because it's a movie for the big screen.

Fabulous movie IMVHO. And my husband agrees. So, there. Now I can FINALLY read other lj entries about it!

(Only bad thing about it; I already find that in my mind, when I imagine Star Trek, I can't decide between the young and the old actors now. Uh-oh. Guess I need to write post-STVI with the old guys and the academy fics with the young guys. But this movie makes it possible to write AU fic that is normal universe in the old series, right? The mind boggles! I wonder how we'll code such things in ASCEM.)

I hope you'll love it. It's IMVHO really a great movie; my other seat neighbor was of the opinion, it was the best Star Trek movie ever made. I certainly think it has "Wrath of Khan" level, though it's like comparing apples and peaches as it's done 25 years later with other actors and other technical possibilities.

As for the pairings...fandom will alway find what it needs and wants to find :)))

I'm even more excited now, if that's humanly possible, because I really trust your sense of Trek, and you've given it a glowing review. I just knew Karl Urban would be brilliant. I'm almost afraid I'll get teary-eyed, just seeing the ship again! It's not long now...

May I ask you one brief question: does Simon Pegg work as Scotty? I adore Scotty (he's my second favorite after McCoy), and I also really like Simon Pegg, but I still can't completely imagine the one portraying the other. There's a heroic side to Scotty, and I'm hoping it isn't totally lost in the translation.

I've already been spoiled about the romance, and yes, I can totally live with that.

I'm so very happy they balance the action with character moments. I can't remember when I've been this excited about a film. It's been years.

*hugs*

Uh oh, lots of responsibility now on my shoulders :) But yeah, I hope you'll like the movie. The beginning is already rather touching, although in an unexpected way (I was really unspoiled).

I like Scotty; the humorous side is more pronounced than in the original but it - and he - worked very well for me. And he's just as genius as always. Not sure about the heroic side but he doesn't save the day - well, stop, he does :) So all is well *G*

Oh damn, I want to see the movie once more, if possible RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!

I have no clue; I read your other post and well, as it's an AU reboot, I don't have any continuity problems. But as I'm a big fan and writer of looong AUs anyway, I can wrap my mind about lots of things - especially because it's done so brilliantly IMVHO. There's enough of the original characters and settings in it to keep it in sync for me, and enough change to make a great plot.

Of course, they are not the characters we're used from the old movies, because they didn't yet really "grow" together (and likely never will without a series, for which these actors would be unpayable). If we're lucky, we'll get three great movies and that needs to feed us. So it won't ever be like the original; but we can make a synthesis in ours minds, I think. I surely will try. Because OMG pretty Kirk, pretty McCoy, pretty Spock! *G* :P

Mmmm yeah usually I like continuity not so much b/c it makes my head hurt otherwise, but because it feels lazy to not respect the original ***if you are doing it professionally*** (I love AU fic, so). If it really is done that well then I suppose I should give it a try.

Plus from the spoiler post I read, it seems like they are explicitly keeping this a parallel universe, like the Mirror one? THAT would totally be okay for me, because they're NOT overriding what was already done -- that simply exists in a parallel universe.

The romance that I read about ahahaha yes it DOES leave more room for K/Mc, but I'm not under the impression that they get a lot of time together, so :( :( :(

Just promise me McCoy matters in the film XD;;;;;

Well, McCoy never matters enough, let's face it. But they do have some cool scenes together and basically attend the academy together as best buddies - how much more does an inventive writer need :)?

Okay fine convinced. *mutters*

I may have to write fic to overcome residual bitterness that my fave char isn't in there enough. <3

Thanks for your opinion and I'm glad you liked it. But I still think I'll wait for the dvd release. And there's absolutely no way I can avoid spoilers for that long, so I read all I can find on it.

I'm really curious, but not enough to spend that much cash on theatre tickets. ;o)

I know that you've got other priorities right now. However, it's really a movie for the big screen :) and will lose a lot on small TV set.

I'm still very wary of this movie. Sylar as Spock?? That more than anything holds me back from going. Does he REALLY seem like Spock to you?? The little trailer part of him enraged and jumping on someone (kirk?) makes me roll my eyes. Does he do the eyebrow?? He has to speak volumes with the raise of an eyebrow or he just ISN'T Spock. But really - I know you like Kirk/McCoy the best, but for me it will always be Spock/McCoy - is there any banter between them?? Eh, I just can't see me caving in anytime soon.

I am a Heroes watcher but Quinto works great as Spock for me :) There's nothing of Sylar in this role, IMO.

The scene where he's enraged, consider it like the scene of "This Side of Paradise" where Kirk actively WORKS on killing Spock's control and succeeds. And yes, Quinto makes the eyebrow thing and while it doesn't look as cool as in the original, they are all younger in this and not as mature as in the old series.

I love S/Mc and while they don't get much screentime together, they do have some classic intercourses *G*

I have to admit the romance was a bit...odd. I'm just used to thinking only a certain nurse miight be possible with him. I dunno. But it's AU so I forgive it. If it means getting to see amazing make out and scenes and him being a little more vulnerable then I'm all for it ;D

Nod, nod, nod, big agreement on your posting, that's exactly how I perceived the new movie! Lots of fun, action and great scenes. And since it's an AU, I have no problem whatsoever to see it work besides TOS. All actors were great, Urban was fantastic. I only have the same problem as you, I begin to see the new faces when I imagine a younger crew...
And craving the original version. I'd love to hear their real voices!
