Someone who was completely heterosexual in their inclinations and actions could also use "queer" as a self-description if other aspects of their sexuality were non-traditional, e.g. they cross-dressed, engaged in BDSM, had significant fetishes, etc. At least in the way *I* understand and use the term "queer"!
