Things coming out of... you know :)

Being Home means Being Gone Tomorrow

The first circle starts after the Narada, when home becomes a strange synonym for being the place Chris doesn't want to be except for the moment he's not alone with his ghosts.
The company is brief, however, and the absence long.
Maybe, Chris ponders over a drink once in a while, it makes Jim's returns all the better.
On the other hand, maybe that whole thing between them is just a grand illusion.
Well, it's worth a try.

Absence makes fonder...maybe
"You goddamn idiot," is the first thing that greets Jim when he walks through the door of a certain admiral's apartment.
"Whoa, what a welcome," he quips as he throws his bag into the middle of the living room. "What did I do to deserve this after four months of absence?"
On the couch, Christopher Pike sits up and waves his PADD. "I read your latest mission reports. Including McCoy's arm-long report on your injuries. Dammit, man, I've had my share of surgeries in my days, but you're living each day as if you want to make it your last."
"Yeah. And you should know by now, it's not as if that's news to you." Jim crosses his arms with a glare. "You want me to leave again?"
"No." Chris sighs and throws the PADD aside. "Come here, lover boy."
"That's better." Jim smirks and climbs right onto Chris' lap to catch a first kiss. "Fuck, it's good to be here."
"I'm glad you made it," Chris mutters, lacing his hands into the short, blond hair. And if there's a tiny you suicidal idiot swinging at the end of the sentence, Jim happily ignores it.

Foursome Love :)
Home is where your heart is.
Great line, but fucking complicated when there's a bunch of hearts involved.
They spend one vacation in Georgia, where Jim and Bones play a classic couple for Joanna's sake and Chris and Number One hang out and go fishing (it's her choice and while he doesn't understand it at all, the nights make worth the wait).
They spend one shoreleave at Chris' cabin, where Jim and Number One go climbing together (and doing some other things which is totally fine as long as they don't fall down the walls because of it), and Chris and Bones hang out on the campfire and have too much whiskey and too much fun.
They've got that trip to that science conference where Bones and Number One enjoy all those lectures where even the titles give Chris a headache, so Jim and he look for some other distractions (the hotel has one of the best saunas ever, and the night clubs aren't bad either).
No matter how the temporary sorting looks like, in the end it comes down to the four of them. Sometimes closer, sometimes more distant, and it's not always easy because humans are humans (or Ilyrians, but they are not that different in that regard) and sometimes emotions don't follow strict orders.
So maybe they had that argument once at Christmas, and there have been a few not so nice holovids recordings despite their promises not to fuck anything up over long-distance transmission, and maybe a few times, one or the other had been dangerously close to deciding that maybe being single would be better than the damn emotional hangover that undoubtedly follows each of their vacations. But like in a miracle, they've all managed to avoid the big fallout so far.
It doesn't mean it won't ever happen, but then there's shoreleave again and they've got that cake with ten candles on it, Happy Anniversary JimBonesChrisOne, and they make a promise for another ten years.
Captain's honor and all, and they're people to keep their word.

That is great news to me :) Thoroughly enjoyed the foursome here. Interesting how they break into various couple relationships often. Makes me wonder if there are particular couples within the relationship that don't work so well... but of course it is just a short fic :) It conveyed a lot of the richness of the relationship in just a few sentences.
