Didn't want to clutter up [livejournal.com profile] cruisedirector's LJ by commenting on your comment there, but I thought your comment to her was very good. We've all panicked over fannish wrongs we've done... I thought I was going to get lynched when I came out as Amphioxous on ASCEM, and thank goodness, nobody at all gave a shit. The reason I thought anyone would care was that when some people bitched about Laura, they'd cite her sockpuppetness as their reason for being irritated with her. That made me assume it was like TEH BADDEST THINGG EVAR one could do online, which even made sense to me because all we have here in this imaginary world of ones and zeroes are the trust that what we say to each other about ourselves is true. But thank goodness everyone was too asleep to care, lol... and that Amphi was never used for anything really mischevious.

I've written RPS but it got ferreted into the world as K/Mc... well, that was only a drabble, but still. I will never post RPS on the internet to a website. Swopping it in private mail with people I'm RL friends with won't cause the kind of problems I'm concerned about--and truth, the Secret Service is worried about the president and other government officials, not William bloody Shatner. I just don't want HIM to find it, although personally, I think he might enjoy it.

We're a "tribe" here, in fandom, meeting other "tribes" at the "native gatherings" of conventions and sharing our tribal, cultural goodies. There are laws of ethics and then there are tribal laws. The tribal laws make the fandom run more smoothly, but they aren't as absolute as those ethics laws can be.

After all, if Veronica mails me a zine to read and then I mail it to [livejournal.com profile] shatfat, as she told me, and then we all bring it to [livejournal.com profile] watergal's this January, how is that any different from what you did? And how is Farfalla's existence as opposed to my XYZ RL name any different from posting S/Mc as Amphi... ah, well.

Enough babbling ^_^ Back to statistics!

Thanks for writing this, yeah, same "problem" with Amphi. I like your comparison to tribal rules :)) You helped me with your PM at that time a lot anyway (and I never told you until now).

*HUGS* It's so good to have you and some other special people as friends in this fandom.
