Hm. I read through some answers and found that I wouldn't be able to ramble about anything besides TOS, DS9 and TNG ships (alright, maybe some X-Files and LOTR). Which once again shows my limitedness concerning fandoms.

I better go on with my Spock manip :)

*relaxing after a good day of family chit-chat*

(Alright, if you want to hear a ramble, drop me a note here ;)

EDIT: The full rules:

The Ship Meme

In this one, you comment with any ship from a fandom that you know I like, or at least have some knowledge about. I will ramble for 100 words about aforementioned ship. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust, depending on what it is.

EDIT 2: I answered by now questions about Worf/Wesley, Bashir/O'Brien/(Garak), S/Mc and K/S/Mc. Feel free to ask more :)

Worf/Wes. That was the thing you liked with Wesley, right?

Why?
I was just wondering :-)

Hehehe. Actually, this was a challenge story that Lyra wanted to have from Cait, but Cait gave up and posted it on ASCEM. I don't like Worf much, but I've developed a slight fancy for Wesley. I'm actually not sure why, but there are many possibilities:
- A father-son-relationship to Picard OR Riker
- The teenage angst (didn't we all feel that insecure at that time?)
- Wesley at the academy and esp. the episode where his group makes that forbidden maneuvre
- Wesley later in life (with or without the Traveller)

With Worf, it was the challenge to write the pairing believable *g* and AFAIS, I succeeded, much to the shock of some people :) I think they work if Wesley proves that he's worthy and a man. But I prefer Wesley with Riker, like in "Literati" by theyodeler. That was a great piece.

Huh? I wrote Riker/Worf for Lyra, but I don't do no Wussley fic! Well, at least I haven't so far. I don't think. Or have I? Thanks for confoosing me (which isn't too hard to do!).

No, you didn't, but Lyra wanted one from you and you posted that to ASCEM - as far as I remember. That's where I hit the bucket ;)

I don't ever remember her asking me for a Worf/Wesley fic. Did I misread and give her the Worf/Riker instead? Let me pop over into her journal and ask!

Oooooohhhhhh! I love to see people battling to make me happy. *puts on guaze covered princess cap and swoons onto nearby couch with a bowlful of peeled grapes*

As I recall, I asked you in email for Worf/Riker or and you delivered the hilarious (and hot!) Workout (http://www.asstr.org/~CaitN/slash/workout.html) making me very, very happy indeed! :) I did make a comment that my next hypothetical pairing request for the next hypothetical return favor might be Worf/Wes and when you posted Workout to ASCEM I made a vague reference to having another bizarre pairing I wanted to read. AQ emailed me to ask what that might be and BLAMO! I had Sick Call (http://www.syredronning.de/sick_call.txt) to add to my shelf of stuff writen for me Me ME!

God, I love this! Why don't more people write stuff for me? It's like ruling the world for 10 minutes--well, okay, not really, but I still love it. I'm not all that big on powertrips, but custom commmisioned fanfic could change my mind

Julian Bashir/Miles O'Brien

or the threesome Garak/Bashir/O'Brien

When I started reading DS9, I wasn't much in favor of slash besides Sisko/Bashir. Then I re-watched some older eps with a slasher's eyes, and saw Bashir/Garak. It's really all over the screen. I couldn't get into Garak for a long time, but I don't have to - I like to read him anyway now :)

But O'Brien...well, I see the connection to Bashir, but I don't think that O'Brien would act upon it. He's really the big family man (even if his marriage is quite fucked-up), and so the B/O'B fic that I really buy is the angsty one where O'Brien muses without doing anything, or where Keiko has fear of losing him or something. Therefore, I can't see a triangle Garak/Bashir/O'Brien. I've read a fic where G and O'B fight over Bashir, which would be the closest to that construct, but it didn't convince me.

That said, I will read a story with that threesome anyway and hope that it's good enough to sell it at least over the length of it :)

When I started reading slash (I began with Spock/Saavik het and then looked further), I read lots and lots of K/S and - very early on - the Society of Slash Diversity, where I could find a much broader range. I even liked things like Kirk/Chekov (although Chekov is not my favorite). And I loved Spock/McCoy. I could so see it. They are the quintessential antagonists, but they are also so much alike in some aspects.

When I write them, I have the possiblities to play with that, to write a relationship where there are genuine feelings but also (remaining) differences in opinions and all. Even when it is a romantic S/Mc story, you'll always have some caustic McCoy remarks that prevent the story from falling into the deepest fluff pool IMO. (And while my own relationship is very peaceful because we can't quarrel, I love to write this couple that can quarrel. It's like playing with a side of me I can't live out in rl :)

I love the description Lyra once gave in ASCEM - they are like an old couple where you wonder how the hell they ever got together in the first place, but you can't imagine one without the other. It was kind of love at first sight, and even when sidetracked to K/Mc, S/Mc owns a special place in my heart :) They are the one true-love-pairing to me :)

That's kind of interesting--my entire involvement with slash kind of started from similar feelings.

Oh my - wasn't my ship_manifesto not enough for you :)?

Alright. I love K/S/Mc. As I said, it means having the cake and eating it with extra cherries on top. I blame T'Thrill for it. I read the first three parts of the Under the Sun trilogy (on the site of the Society for Slash Diversity) and got sooo spoiled. They fit so well. (Even though I later read part four, and Sarek/McCoy fit so well, too, that it became another favorite pairing of mine).

What do I love? In a way, they are so different. Each has his strength and weaknesses, but in combination they are unbeatable. Kirk with his energy and power of will, but also sometimes overstepping the line. Spock as the logic, cool and sometimes overly reluctant person. McCoy as the conscience, the emotional judge, the voice of compassion.

Their interaction is great, their history is great, they just have to happen because otherwise someone is odd-man-out, and I want them all to be happy (and there is no place for women in their lives AFAIS :).

I don't know why I never really fell in love with K/S, but it's not as hot and emotionally loaded for me as anything with McCoy (and I was even mostly Spock-fan in the beginning). K/S/Mc never fails to get me boiling in no time :)
