Actually, I went into town to buy a special pencil for my soon upcoming lessons in humiliation drawing. But then I tried to go shopping, but found neither clothes nor shoes. In fact, the shoe fashion drove me to walk into the men's departments and check those shoes. Some would have fit, but GOSH, many of them are of such a hard leather my feet hurt just from looking at them. Poor men! Anyway, I think I'm up for a poll. (Blame Lyra...I blame her for a lot of things anyway, including weird pairings, going to KisCon and some kind of lost virginity.)

I hate shoe-shopping mainly because new shoes are mostly all so *stiff* and the odds of finding something soft enough to comform to my slipper-tastes are frustratingly small.

I like wearing flip-flops or these horrible little cheap lime-green canvas things that look like ballet toe shoes.

Yes, stiff sucks. But flip-flops, uh, I wanted something for the office and found just crap. Is it so unnormal to want normal, black, laced low shoes made from polished leather (no suede)?!

It is remarkably difficult to find *normal* garments of any kind. A plain white shirt, plain black shoes or pants, plain jewelery that isn't costume... everything's orange and pink and weird, or with strange decorations and designs...

that's why i knit lol

Oh sissies, all of you! You don't even know what painful shoes ARE. Try a pair of pointes on, glue yourself in them (literally) and break a toe or two. See how fun? Good Grief!

See the picture? That's me 16 years ago. See how effortless and how painless that looks? Bwhaaaaaa!!!!

Wow! That's an amazing picture! I always wanted to do ballet, but they told me I was going to be too tall and then I then I found out I scoliosis, anyway so that ended THAT. ;) Beautiful and graceful pic!! And yes - compared to what you must have gone through they ARE sissies.

Eh...my feet were less of a problem 16 years ago, as everyone's was, probably ;)))

Today, I have a kind of bone extension on the root of my big left toe, which quickly gets inflamed if the shoes are uncomfortable...and I prefer walking around without pain ;)

That looks marvellous :) I'm impressed :)

Actually, I've made some dancing on my toes, too. I've made ballet from age 4-14, jazz dance from 16-22(?), tap dance from 20-28. Then I got lazy, had too much computer work and got really fat :(

Perhaps you could try looking around on the internet at shoes just to cut down on time spent at the store. If you can find a brand and style you like then you can find a store that sells them and try them on.

I love shoe shopping unless it is for a specific event - then I can't find what I'm looking for. I think they deliberately hide the shoes on you. I had to find some fancy gold-colored sandle pumps for a very fancey Pakistani wedding and the stores suddenly didn't have a single shoe in gold. Yeah, right - anytime before that they were everywhere I looked and didn't need them. Then for months and months I hunted and just days before event I managed to find one frickin' pair! I was almost ready to go in fuzzy bedroom slippers I was so desperate. Now I've worn them once and they sit in my closet to rot for all time...useless shoes and they hurt, too. Oh well...

Good luck shoe hunting...perhaps you should try loafers.

I have my favorite brand, but they didn't have the shoes I wanted in the program right now. And I can't stand 99% of the loafers...

But I guess I'll try finding additional brands in the future :)

And yeah, I know that story about the shoes you really need...I ended marrying in quite an old pair which was just better fitting than anything else :)
