Pentecost Monday is a general holiday in Germany, so I'm still at home, relaxing, happy, snuggling with hubby. Even though I have to work a bit for another customer of mine (updating a training manual), and to do the birds and pack my stuff and all.

Some more fannish gushing about Shelley's ability for shading coming here:

I remember her saying that she's not thinking in lines but in areas, and that's the right way to look at things. The folds are essentially done with grey areas that leave the upper folds as white areas.

See the knee caps? They are highlighted - almost white - while the lower legs are rather dark, the lines made up by shadow areas. (I finally learned what midtones, high tones and shadows are, something I've seen in Gimp but never really thought about the implications.)

I also faintly remember that Shelley said she shaded and removed the shades and shaded some more and removed them again...which results in a very organic shading tone in the end. She doesn't really use white spaces, it's all gray, because she's shading everything a bit. In fact, there's a lot of charcoal around :) I think I need to lose the respect of white paper...

Unrelated sidenote: I wonder if this dark bird outside tries to build a nest in our eaves gutter...?
