It. Does. Not. Work.

Anyone any tips? Did anyone ever successfully write a story (finish a draft) by writing&posting it in parts to lj?

I'm willing to try anything to get this f*cking MU done. Sigh.

I am extremely jealous of any one who can post WIPs in parts and make it work. Me, I am always going back to the beginning to make something fit with something new I decided upon later.

Maybe that is part of what I don't like about the finished product--too heavily manipulated...I dunno.

Well, best wishes whatever you decide.

Yeah, I'm usually working totally unchronologically too. I often write the ending, the beginning, some things in the middle, then fill up like a puzzle.

However, this time the draft is that old and overworked(?) in parts that I can't decide which way to go and always only rework existing parts instead of really going towards the finish. It's driving me nuts.

BTW I don't think that's too much manipulation. Otherwise, I could throw away the whole Tarot Suite *G*

Thanks for the reply :))

Sure - I see other authors do it all the time. If you commit yourself to finishing it you shouldn't have too much of a problem. By posting it a bit at a time and then telling us where you are stuck - maybe you can get a helpful push in the right direction to keep you going along. :)

Don't give up!!

I try not to, but it's very frustrating. I usually write only short stories chronologically, so it would be something new to write a big one like this.

However, it might give me a push and force me to DECIDE which way the story should turn. Because I swagger around like a mad cow in this damn MU. I got ideas, but I keep changing them. Args.

I *am* writing a story on LJ, and I did write a huge thing which I posted in bits on ASCEM as I wrote, but I never had any difficulty finishing stuff, prob'ly because:
1) I'm hopelessly choronlogical
2) I don't ever start writing anything till I know more or less how it's going to end.

So I don't know how useful this is, but if there's one thing I've learned since I started talking w/ other writers it's that folx have *really* different ways of/reasons for writing.

Well, it's at least interesting to learn how you do it. I read your WIP and it's working well, yes. Unfortunately, I only ever wrote short stories chronologically, and the big ones more like a puzzle, with often the ending finished before I write anything else.

But my last three MU parts are drafts since 2003 (sigh) and I run out of ideas how to make me finish them finally. Very frustrating.

I used to write chapters or partial chapters and upload them to a forum used for writing like that. You can actually see how I did it on 2 of my stories on my site.

(The purchase and The Drug on my site http://katt.onlyhere.net )

LJ might be a little more difficult because its day based, but I have seen it done.
