Georgette Heyer Recs

Seeing that Georgette Heyer (one bio, another bio) is not that well-known to many people, I thought I'd rec some of my favorites. Check out the reviews at amazon.com to find out more about...

Regency/Post-Napoleonic Era:
- "Frederica"
- "The Quiet Gentleman" and/or "The Unknown Ajax" (a bit similar main setting, unwanted heir turns up)
- "Arabella"
- "False Colors"
- "Black Sheep"
- "The Grand Sophy" (especially strong female character)

At bit different than the others, and setting place before the French Revolution in England and France
"These Old Shades" (a must-have and her break-through novel) and its sequel "Devil's Cub".

I don't read any other Regency Romance novels besides GH. She forged the whole genre (publishing from 1921 to her death in 1975) and is a great writer. Reading her is just a delightful (if somewhat guilty) pleasure for me, which I usually do in phases :)

P.S. Concerning her contemporary mystery novels...some are ok (though I can't remember which ones, didn't read any for a decade) but I'd prefer Dorothy Sayers any time...

Several of my friends are really into her works! I think I read all of her books in the 1970s; you've just reminded me how much I enjoy them.

My mother is a fan of Georgette Heyer. I never really got into them myself, but I might give them another chance some day.
