Art stuff.
Jul. 15th, 2006 08:33 amSo I was shopping at my favorite art equipment supplier, and bought some copic pens.
One Copic Ciao, one Copic Sketch (refillable and with exchangable tip), and Multiliners in 0.7 and brush. Except for the Multiliner 0.7, all of them have a brush side, which results in lines differing depending on pressure and angle :) The Ciao and the Sketch also have a broad second side for larger areas. Didn't ink anything yet (hey, you have to draw first ;), but played around with them and it feels good :))
Then I wandered through the book area and found a great book! I bought the German Version, Intensivkurs Fantasy-Figuren zeichnen und malen. Von der Idee zur fertigen Szene, but the original is English (Drawing & Painting Fantasy Figures: From the Imagination to the Page). (P.S. Just saw that there's a kind of new, extended edition, published this June!)
I think it's an incredible book and it would be in my top five list of recommendations, because it covers so much (not only figures, but animals, landscapes, perspective, production cycle) AND you totally loose your bad conscience for
- combining drawing and computer. Everyone in business does that, e.g. draw independent scenes and combine and edit them in the computer. There's nothing forbidden in using the best of each world :)))
- using other pictures or whatever you have as basic material (copy things, add things, combine things)
Sounds like weird problems? Hey, we're diverging from the HIGH traditional ART concept, at least in my mind. I always had the illusion that art skills are inborn and pictures just comes to those who feel that inner urge. I don't know why I thought that, when I know that it's not like that with anything (except for music and maths, maybe).
But I learn, and it's fun. Actually, I already have a concept for a K/S comic page and four panels in it are on draft level. Not sure who will get/want it if the result is good, but I need a goal to get me into gears.
Edit: We got our new fridge! *squeeeee*

Date: 2006-07-15 09:27 am (UTC)That looks like a great book! I got a book something like that last Christmas... which I haven't had a chance to look at, LOL. I want to get better at drawing figures. I'd love to be able to draw without an image to copy from.
