Alright, I got the comment of "glaring plothole" by now. Considering that it took me a while, I seem to have been very happy with the events and didn't feel any plothole annoyance.
However, of course there should have been other solutions than Nathan flying away with Peter.
a) Claire could have shot him - it was to be temporary and only for stopping him, that's my understanding. Or b) Nathan could have shot him.
However, both of them DID already see Dead!Peter and I bet they absolutely didn't want to experience that again, or be the reason for another dead brother and uncle. Besides, how absolutely sure can they be that they won't fuck it up the next time? So far only Hiro's ability was really wacky at times, but there's no guarantee it will always work.
c) Peter flying himself - oh my. IMO, he's just too emo to handle several things at the same time, he was totally mesmerized by the prospect of himself blowing up, and he was not thinking straight. All of the Heroes forget about their abilities from time to time, and that's IMO understandable. Because first of all they think of themselves as humans - the abilities come second and more in addition. I think Sylar's strength is that he really integrates all those abilities and defines himself by them.
And the best argument - come on, the brothers flying away is just the BIG HEROIC ACT that everything was working towards over all the season. It's redemption, it's so ancient greek - it just had to be. It mirrors the situation when Peter jumps from the roof and Nathan flies up and grabs him. Nathan may be a shady ass, and I was almost convinced he'd follow through with his mother's plans - he sure looked like until the moment when Claire, with a lot more guts than he has shown so far, jumps out of the building - but then he came and saved the world...yay!
I don't think any of them is dead. We're talking superheroes and comics here, dude. And they are two of the most important characters in the show. And I'd hate to give up my petrellicest love.

Date: 2007-05-23 09:11 pm (UTC)I also read in the discussion that the idea seemed to have been to shoot him in the head so that he would be truly dead. Which would make it clear why Claire wouldn't shoot, but I actually interpreted it the way that she just had to shoot him at all because when he's unconscious, he's not able to do any damage. Like when he fainted on the street before HRG picked him up - his hands stopped radiating energy shortly after he fainted. Hmmm.
The Heroes don't make always perfect decisions, and sometimes they just fail at some point, which leaves "plotholes" for the viewers, wondering about a "why" when there actually isn't one. Most of our days are filled with little things we do out of a whim, little mistakes we make because we don't think twice about something. It makes this series more interesting IMO that the folks here ain't perfect either.
