100 brownie points to my husband who installed my new 2 GB RAM and the VMWare server on my business desktop computer this morning before going to work. Not so many brownie points for me because I only slept 4.5 hours and really should go to bed earlier, as the sun keeps waking me up early too.

What I just read about the remastered "Paradise Syndrome" - Additionally, the entire subplot about Miramanee bearing Kirok's child was edited out for commercial space. - Hello?! Just gotta love this kind of capitalistic, brain-damaged and fucked-up strange editing. Thank god for DVDs.

And for trekkies in search of reading material - just updated the ASCEM 2007 story list overview :)

That was edited out in syndication?!

This from the same geniuses who had edited out the only HET scene in Amok Time... which I applaud, lolz, but still, why?

Because some idiots are afraid of potential reactions of their viewers and become completely sex-scared? After what you told me about hiding nudity of statues etc. in USA I'm not surprised at all that something like this is happening. After all, it is not acceptable for captain Kirk to have sex with a woman and - OMG! - make her pregnant (no matter it was policially correct because he did it after marriage) when he's stranded on a planet:P

I don't think the cut was borne of prudishness, for these reasons--first of all, they left in plenty of completely swinging heterosexual behavior in other episodes, NOT involving marriage, and second of all, syndication cuts were made in the 70's, which were a decade that knew sexual playtime like no other. Especially in the 70's, reference to a marriage having produced a child probably wouldn't be censored on television for sex reasons. (However, maybe it had something to do with "upsetting" reasons? After all, she does wind up dying, and the kidlet with her.)

I think it has more to do with whoever made those decisions having very little sense, and that's simply that. For example, one of the syndication cuts I hate the most is Chapel's two scenes interacting with the lieutenant in Obsession - they give her a nice, snarky personality that she never shows in any other footage and really make her quite adorable. The only logical reason for cutting them is that they wouldn't be missed to the plot, but they're good scenes.
