This was a day for karma points; did work, did use a high pressure water cleaner to clean stairways and balcony and stuff; husband fixed two lamps and a light switch in his mother's house and I went with him and helped; we fetched the Smart; and now ordered food.

This day, many points.

P.S. Never have heard of Madeleine L'Engle - what about you, fellow Germans, did you ever read anything by her? *curious*

Thanks - it sounds as if she never really made it across the ocean :))

Nope. I wikipedia-ed her just now... but then, I don't read as much as I used to, pretty much only for uni and fanfic.

I read a lot of books until some years ago, so I suspect she's not well-known around here.

Well, I confess I can't call myself a fellow German, though I did just move to Prague, but I am a big fan of L'Engles'. Very good, highly moral young persons' fic, most well known would be "A Wrinkle in Time" -and the sequels that follow it. Her early works are fairly mundane and a bit sappy, and her most recent works show her to be a bit of a weird sort of mystical Christian, but as a non-Christian, I find that none of her stuff bothers me at all.

What's curious about her works is that, although a lot of her books seem to involve different characters and settings, eventually you discover that they are all part of one fairly vast universe, including the mundane early stuff and the weird biblical later stuff. I'd defnitely reccommend her.
