Wild Carol Marcus speculations :)

A big thank-you to everyone who participated in my Carol Marcus poll. Most interesting points are
- that most of you like her or grew to like her.
- that David happened most probably because Carol wanted to get pregnant (but didn't care for Jim), followed by "kinda happened" and then by "happened because Jim fucked up", so broad consensus is that Carol wouldn't get pregnant by chance - if she gets pregnant, there's likely a plan.
- that either both fucked up the relationship or that there was never a real relationship to begin with.
- that most of you would support some kind of father-son relationship; however, a minority thinks they may at least keep him out of the picture or inform the son later in life.

So I think the thing that's really outside of the current poll results is that Carol obviously decided never to tell David who his father is. But from the movie I deduced that he knew Kirk was one of his mother's ex-boyfriends (and didn't like him). Hmmm. Need to look at the novelization again.

I liked the idea I once saw in fanfic, that she's actually lesbian and sees him as sperm donor. As for the planned motherhood...I don't see a motive, that's my problem. She's working on her career, obviously, and she couldn't be old enough to get that "need to get pregnant now!" hormonal imperative that often happens beyond age 30. So why should she want to have a kid at that point in her life, if there's not maybe a second person involved with whom she wants to have a child but is unable to receive one?

(OTOH, she could see it like Jodie Foster - definitely wants a child but no father. Though that's not a really nice thing to do if you involve a real person (and not an anonymous sperm donor). Happened to a friend of mine, now that I think of it...)

Someone please write me interesting Marcus fic before she takes over my creative mind, sigh :)

A lot of people write Carol Marcus because they see Carol as the ultimate hard evil bitch for not telling David about Kirk, and to them hard evil bitch = lesbian, just like in all the old pulp novels.

Which is often the closest these people have come to meeting an actual lesbian.

Bleh, yes. Sigh. I like my characters three-dimensional, and it's annoying when I feel I can't go a certain route because it's overdone and overtaken by stupid people ;)
