Guess I was right about the hormones, as it's *that* time of the month again. However, am rather relaxed so far. Not one to give up easily, I baked chocolate muffins take#2 and alas, this time they taste perfectly good :) Not as overly sweet as the ones you can usually buy.

I spent yesterday's evening in a rather hot tub with a book about technical indicators that are used for analyzing stock charts. Cool. I think I'm going to make a little NASDAQ and DAX analysis today. That's what I love best about projects, when they give me something to learn beside the pure software handling. And this one means really treading new grounds.

Coming next: First coffee. Muffins. Fruit salad. Not necessarily in this order.

For some reason unknown, I wrongly thought that my husband doesn't like muffins. There's no excuse - it's something one should be able to find out over the course of 11 years. But in fact, he likes them, even prefers the same versions as I do (chocolate or with blueberries).

Therefore, I went and bought a muffin baking tin by Kaiser (I'm such a terrible traditionalist when it comes to bakery) and made 12 chocolate muffins with a standard recipe.

Yes, I only post to tease you :)

EDIT: They taste...strange?! Inedible, really. Obviously my error was that I simply used natron instead of baking powder - and overdosed. Therefore they taste soapy. Damn. The first failed bakery in decades.

My husband has a slightly wacky health today and hit his already aching head while cleaning the dressing room. I hope he's better soon - he even didn't want a fresh muffin right away, which is a bad sign...*cuddles poor hubby*

[livejournal.com profile] cedara saved my sanity by knowing what a Backbrett is! Even though she doesn't own one (yet).

My mother will bring me one in June. Ha! And most of the Hildabroedle are already eaten, because they are so yummy.

Oh, this mood icon shows one of my preferred K/Mc scenes; the way McCoy wipes the blood from Kirk's lips always makes my muses and the bunnies squee.

Last not least: My husband rejoices in the pleasure of newsgroups - including the binary ones. So there will be new men shots and some strange mangas soon ;)

Bakery!

After a rather productive day, I had a weird moment and tried another round of "Hildabroedle". Last time, they tasted well but looked terrible, because they are made of shortpastry which sticks to everything, everywhere.

This time I worked around that problem by a) using my rolling pin of doom and b) gigantic amounts of flour. Therefore, they almost look like they should.
pics of the kitchen chaos, after the chaos and the result )

However, AFTER they were in the oven, I had a closer look at the recipe again and found that you should actually bake the Broedle in halves first and assemble the unit with jam afterwards *bonks head*

Well, next time...husband will eat them anyway, and they taste great.

And the 1$ question about a Backbrett (wooden pastry board with one slat up on one side and another one down on the other side). Until tonight I thought it's a common German bakery tool, but it's not...? But at least I found it also on US websites!
